I read that Track Palin spent his most of his senior year of high school in Michigan and was playing hockey there, not college but HIGH SCHOOL. Odd. Maybe there is nothing here?

Palin's oldest son has Michigan tie

By CHRIS CHRISTOFF • FREE PRESS STAFF WRITER • August 29, 2008

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, John McCain’s apparent choice as his vice presidential running mate, has a Michigan connection.

Her oldest son, Track, lived in Portage during most of his senior year in high school. He played junior major hockey. During an interview at the National Governors Association conference in 2007, she told a Free Press reporter that her son went back to Alaska in March to graduate with his class.

Track Palin is in the Army and headed for Iraq in September. Her other children are Bristol, Piper, Willow and Trig.

Palin said she didn't know much about Michigan until the weekend she spent last summer, but was impressed the Traverse City area.

"What a stinker," she said of her son. "He never told me how wonderful it is."

Then this from the Mud Flats { Alaskan blog }:

“The newest rumors starting to get teeth involve Track Palin and 3 friends being arrested for vandalizing several school buses. Troopers showed up. And yes, this is Mike Wooten’s area. Bus-gate.”

Is there more to the Wooten firing than just the ex brother-in-law problem?

Wooten, the former brother-in-law they wanted to fire. And they even fired the man who would not fire Wooten.

Whenever a kid gets shipped off for a year, there's usually a reason. Who was he living with for that year? How was it arranged? And why would someone leave Alaska, perhaps the hotbed of U.S. hockey, to go to Michigan, where it is popular, but nothing like in Alaska and Canada?

And on a related note, I was sifting through some of my old baseball cards and found a Wayne Gretzky rookie card I had forgotten I owned. Just for the heck of it, I looked it up. $1000! Kah-CHING!

John McCain was a prisoner in Vietnam. So was Gary Glitter, and I'm not voting for him either.

Y'know, if there's any truth to this, and it certainly looks promising, it becomes "her kids are out of control!"

I'd look into why he enlisted in the army. Judges often offer that as a choice to young people facing fairly minor drug or other charges. Show me your enlistment papers and we'll drop the case.

More on this:

From ADN, December, 2005:

Four high school students were arrested Monday on charges stemming from vandalism last week that disabled a school bus fleet, closing core-area schools for a day in the Matanuska-Susitna Borough School District, according to the Alaska State Troopers. Three boys -- a 16-year-old and two 17-year-olds -- were taken to the Mat-Su Youth Facility after their 10:30 a.m. arrests at their homes. The fourth, Deryck Harris, 18, was arrested at 2:51 p.m. at home and jailed at the Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility.

I wonder if the National Enquirer is talking to him?

Now more on her eldest son's 'deployment', McCain can sure pick 'em. Now all the talk has been about Palin and what a dumbass she is but sure seems McCain is the real dumbass for chosing her. He HAD to have consulted with Springer! =')

Is the McCain-Palin Campaign Violating Operational Security?

When Sarah Palin was announced as John McCain's Vice Presidential pick, I found it a little disturbing that she told the public that her oldest son, Track, would be deploying to Iraq on September 11. Generally, disclosing the date of deployment is against Operational Security (OPSEC) and illegal.

Calling around to a couple of Public Affairs Officers (PAO) who would be handling the flow of information about Track and his unit, VoteVets.org found out that, first, Track is not deploying on September 11. He may be part of a deployment ceremony that day, before going to Kuwait, though one Public Affairs Officer said that any details of the upcoming ceremony hadn't been made public yet by the military.

Governor Palin may have spilled the beans on that one, while showing she doesn't know the difference between a soldier deploying to Iraq vs. one preparing to deploy to Iraq. And while not illegal, if she really did believe that's when he's deploying to Iraq, then she didn't know enough to keep quiet about that to keep from violating OPSEC -- something a potential Commander in Chief should know.

But, more disturbing, and definitely in violation of security, are an explosion of stories that say specifically where in Iraq Track is deploying to, which have been dutifully eaten up by right wing websites, and reprinted. I will not reprint it here, because I would only be compounding the issue. But, unfortunately, it is very easy to find on the web at this point.

It is simply impossible that any reporter could figure this out on their own. Just by knowing Track's name and the date he is heading to Kuwait, one could not figure out specifically where Track and his company would be going in Iraq. There's a reason it's impossible to figure that out -- because the military doesn't want that information out there. It only serves to aid the enemy to know where are troops are moving.

Did the Pentagon release that information to the press?

More details!! =')

Four teenagers arrested in Mat-Su bus vandalism
Alaska State Troopers on Monday arrested four young men suspected of vandalizing buses in the Mat-Su School District last week.

Three of the four suspects are charged as juveniles. A 16-year-old and two 17-year-olds were arrested at their homes and taken to the Mat-Su Youth Facility.

Eighteen-year-old Deryck Harris was also arrested at his home and taken to Mat-Su pretrial, where he was charged as an adult.

Troopers spokesman Greg Wilkinson says all four have been charged with criminal mischief, trespassing and conspiracy to commit criminal mischief.

The 16-year-old suspect also is charged with theft and furnishing alcohol to a minor. Police allege he stole a bottle of vodka from a local liquor store the night of the vandalism and supplied it to the group.
---
Vandals last Tuesday removed valve stems from the tires from nearly half the district's bus fleet.

Troopers say 69 tires were deflated on more than 40 buses.

Also, engine block heaters had been unplugged on 110 buses, preventing them from starting in the sub-zero temperatures.

The damage forced school officials to close 31 of the district's 36 schools.

Four teens arrested in Mat-Su vandalism

ANCHORAGE - Alaska State Troopers on Monday arrested four young men suspected of disabling buses last week in the Matanuska-Susitna Borough School District, which forced the school district to cancel classes for nearly 15,000 students.

A 16-year-old and two 17-year-olds were arrested at their homes and taken to the Mat-Su Youth Facility, Troopers spokesman Greg Wilkinson said. They were to be charged as juveniles.

Deryck Harris, 18, was also arrested at his home and taken to Mat-Su pretrial, where he was charged as an adult, Wilkinson said.

All four faced charges of criminal mischief, trespassing and conspiracy to commit criminal mischief, Wilkinson said.

The 16-year-old suspect also faced additional charges of theft and furnishing alcohol to a minor. Troopers allege he stole a bottle of vodka from a local liquor store the night of the vandalism and supplied it to the group.

Employees of First Student, the school district's bus contractor, showed up for work early Nov. 29 and noticed flat tires on multiple buses parked at the company headquarters on the Palmer-Wasilla Highway.

An investigation revealed that 69 tires on 45 of the contractor's 97 buses had been flattened in the unfenced yard. The vandals had removed the tire valves from many of the tires.

Also, cords plugged to engine block heaters had been detached from 93 buses. Temperatures had fallen to 9 degrees below zero.

Damage was estimated at more than $10,000.

Kewl! I didn't realize he excelled in two sports. BTW, I've got half a dozen Reggie Jackson rookie cards. I should have gotten rid of them when he was elected to the Hall of Fame. I don't think they're worth very much but I hope I'm wrong.

here are some answers who he stayed with etc. "Holmes said Track had played previously for the Alaska All-Stars but that he was attracted to the Midwest because it is a hotbed for exposure to scouts for college hockey teams." why did he join the army rather than go to college if he went to Michigan as this story says because it's a hotbed for exposure to scouts for colleges?

Son of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin lived in Portage, Mich., in 2006

by Kelle Barr | Special to the Gazette
Friday August 29, 2008, 10:43 PM

Track Palin, left, was 17 when he stayed with the Holmes family in Portage, Mich. On the right is Dan Holmes, then 16.

PORTAGE, MI -- Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, who Sen. John McCain has chosen as his vice presidential running mate, has Portage ties.

Her son, Track, lived with the Holmes family and attended Portage Central High School for several months of his senior year in 2006.

"He was with us to play AAA Hockey on the same team as our son, Dan," said Dave Holmes, 52. "It's a very competitive level of hockey. By the time the boys get there, they've typically all been playing since they were about 5 years old."

Holmes said Track had played previously for the Alaska All-Stars but that he was attracted to the Midwest because it is a hotbed for exposure to scouts for college hockey teams. So he came to Michigan to play for a Twin Star Ice Arena team, then known as nXi Hockey and is now called S2 Hockey.

"He needed a host family and we were happy to do it," Holmes said. "Sarah was running for governor when Track came to us in September of 2006, and she got elected that November."

During the season, the Holmes family and the Palin family developed a long-distance bond.

"The moms talked on the phone quite a bit about the boys," Holmes said, explaining how the Alaska governor got updates on her son's progress from his wife, Janine, 51.

The two families also spent much time together at a four-day hockey tournament in Dallas during the course of the 2006-07 hockey season.

"He was an exceptional young man with a very nice family," Holmes said. "The boys got along well. Track lived here until hockey season ended in March of 2007, and then he went home to graduate from his own school in Wasilla."

And although the sons have gone their separate ways since high school graduation -- with Track entering the U.S. Army and Dan beginning classes this week as a freshman at Michigan State University -- Dave Holmes and Palin's husband, Todd, remain in friendly contact.

"I've kept in contact with Todd off and on since then," Holmes said. "We last talked on the phone in June."

Janine Holmes said she was surprised about this week's announcement.

"We knew she was in the running but thought it was a long shot," she said. "We were surprised and excited for their family."

We're going with the rumor: Track Palin vandalized a schoolbus and joined the Army so that he could avoid jail

""

Track Palin- at least he's not pregant.

Please, Jesus, let this one be true.

Track Palin, Sarah's teenage son who is shipping off to Iraq on Sept. 11th, apparently joined the Army to avoid jail. Most of Track's senior year was spent in Michigan, which is unusual. Why would this amazing example of family values let their oldest live in Michael Moore's homestate? Could it be that Track severed the brakes of a schoolbus, endangering the lives of elementary school children? And this has something to do with "Troopergate?

Sarah Palin, it is Friday afternoon and we want to go home. Your family is KILLING US.

It is interesting to note that the Holmes' apparently live in Holland, Michigan. That is a distance of about 100 miles, each way, to Portage Central HS. Are we to understand that Track travelled that distance every day for school?? Why wouldn't he just have gone to school in the town where he was quartered, e.g. Holland?

I know what you're thinking: they must have moved from Portage to Holland since March 2007 when Track last lived with them. But 411.com also lists Mrs. Holmes as currently owning a consulting company in Portage...does she travel almost 200 miles/day to work?? It is also curious that there is no information whatsoever about Ms. Holmes' business, Adcom Regulatory Consulting, on either Google, or ask.com.

In Dec. 2006, when Track was playing on Portage's hockey team, the team was ranked just 29th in the state. And their rankings dropped throughout the season, finishing at the 64th ranking! http://www.ushsho.com/mirank07.htm. Surely there must be a gazillion schools where Track could better get exposure to college hockey scouts, on much more successful teams, and much closer to home!!

And, after returning to Wasilla following the end of the season in Michigan, Track was offered a position on an elite amateur team, the Alaska Avalanche. But he turned it down, saying he preferred to enlist in the Army instead.

Can you tell me why someone who obviously loves hockey so much, and who was sent thousands of miles away to play hockey at a higher level, would turn down a position on an amateur team, with serious exposure to the pro coaches? To join the Army???

Everything sounds just a little too curious to me.

Yeah, I understand the hockey obsession in Canada...I lived in Ontario for 23 years, just about 12 miles from Brantford, where Wayne grew up and the Gretzky's still live. Up there hockey really IS as good as gold!

So, why didn't Ms. Palin, with all her apparent connections, manage to get Track into Canada somehow to play hockey there? Was he really that good in hockey? - his temper sounds volcanic. If he was indeed involved in 'BusGate', was he was thrown out of high school in Wasilla? and the Palins sent him somewhere else that would take him for his last year of high school so that the Palins could, now that Ms. Palin was governor, twist arms at Wasilla High School to give Track a diploma under the pretense that he finished most of his senior year while in Michigan?

There's no way that Ms. Palin would let her Governorship be tarnished by having a son who was expelled from high school for his senior year and not "graduate". And, why Michigan?? there had to be some kind of connection between the Palins and that area much prior to sending Track there....don't you wonder what it is??

Hey, thanks, Robin. I stumbled on it while doing some other research about the Palins. Feel kind of bad for the Palin kids and the scrutiny they're getting, but at the same time don't because Ms. Palin is using them to make political "hay" when it's convenient for her.

Wouldn't you think that someone with the family challenges that they are all facing right now be more conerned about giving them ALL of her attention for the next few years, instead of purusing her selfish personal agenda??

My family is from Cornwall, where Wayne played Junior League. He stayed with people down the street from my uncle. Just by coincidence, I've met him twice. Once, unbelievably, was during the Stanley Cup in Boston. He was walking from the lobby to the towers at the (Hilton, I think) and I was the only person who recognized him. Nice guy. I got his autograph on a folder I was carrying. I got back to the office the next day, put the folder down and went to get coffee. My phone rang and a coworker answered it and wrote a message...right across the autograph. Grrrr.

Makes sense if that's what happened. But why out of state? and so FAR out of state?

Why pick some little town in Michigan? There's well over 145 AAA hockey teams in the U.S., 20 in the greater Chicago area alone! Why Michigan? What's the prior connection to the Palins, or them to it, or the Holmes family, who took Track in?

Maybe it's nothing, but it just seems strange.

Yes, he would be nice - the Gretzky's are just "regular" people. Not at all pretentious, and you'd never know by their lifestyle that they have, arguably, the best hockey player ever in their family! Their hometown, of course, is just as proud as can be but it really is just a small little town in the middle of farm country Ontario.

Sorry to hear about the autograph fiasco...at least you have the hockey card! :-)

The other time I met Gretzky was at Yankee Stadium. I had our company seats behind first base and happened to turn around and Gretzky and Patrick Roy were sitting behind me. My jaw dropped. I didn't want to bug them, but they later complimented my Go Visitors sign (I loathe the Yankees).

Hey, as a registered Republican I..........well, actually, I laughed at your post! Yes, I am a registered Republican and had decided in JANUARY that I was going to vote for Mr. McCain...I liked Obama but just didn't feel that he had enough experience yet to be #1.

However, the selection by the GOP power brokers of Ms. Palin shook me out of my decision and, I have to say, not only will I be changing my voter status to Independent, I am voting for Mr. Obama this year. Although I am still a little wonky about the experience issue, the package of Mssrs. Obama and Biden, is FAR preferable to that of Mr. McCain and the Zealot.

Hey, I lived in Chicago at one time, on the lake near the Evanston border. Worked at the Palmer House. Love, love, LOVE Chicago!!

I'm not much of a baseball fan...a rabid basketball fan, though.

Funny that you would see them at a baseball game, isn't it? And it's a jolt when you recognize them, isn't it? When I was flying out of O'Hare one time Marlo Thomas and Phil Donohue were on the escalator just behind me....I had to look at them three times to make sure I wasn't imagining it!

And, you hate the Yankess?...that makes you either a Mets fan or Red Sox, right?

John McCain was a prisoner in Vietnam. So was Gary Glitter, and I'm not voting for him either.

You'll like this piece I just stumbled on - even as I'm typing I'm LOL:

* * * * *

Satire alert

The Republican campaign of Sarah Palin admitted on Satuday that contrary to their previous assertions, she had not actually visited US troops inside Iraq, only visiting a border checkpoint while she was in Kuwait.

They further admitted that she had not actually been in Ireland, but just sat in the plane while it refueled there.

They admited that far from rejecting earmarks she had requested $192 million in earmarks from the Federal government last February. In her first year in office, she had requested $550 million in earmarks.

Then, it became clear that Alaska does not actually produce 20 percent of the energy America uses, contrary to what Palin said in her speech. It is more like 2.4 to 3.5 percent.

Moreover, the campaign was forced to admit , you can't actually see Russia from Alaska, because of the curvature of the earth. Not to mention, one staffer said sheepishly, Palin wears pretty thick Tina Fey glasses, and can't actually even see who she is talking to, much less all the way to Russia. She only agreed to run with John McCain, he explained, because she mistook him for Fred Thompson and thought it would be neat to appear as a judge sometime on "Law and Order."

As for those alleged trips to Mexico and Canada, it turns out that she just likes to watch "Ugly Betty" on t.v. and thinks William Shatner is "still a hunk."

The campaign finally broke down and admitted that Palin is not even governor of Alaska and only ever visited it once, on spring break in the 1980s. Palin admitted that it was an unusual choice for a spring break fling, but explained that she had been heading for Ft. Lauderdale when she and some friends tried some weed in the car and that she "couldn't remember very much else about the trip." She said it was the "spring break of a lifetime," though, and she'd like to visit Alaska again someday after she dealt with the charges stemming from impersonating a politician.

I lived in the Rogers Park area - back in '79 - '81 (I'm almost a fossil). I know North Beach.

But lived in Milwaukee, too, just before that for almost 3 years. Lived near NorthRidge shopping center, I think it was called, and then in Shorewood. Still have family there, an aunt in 'Tosa, and one in West Allis. Grew up in Wisconsin, and family is still there.

Anyhow, I've taken this 'way off topic, but nice to talk with you!

Feel kind of bad for the Palin kids and the scrutiny they're getting, but at the same time don't because Ms. Palin is using them to make political "hay" when it's convenient for her.

Wouldn't you think that someone with the family challenges that they are all facing right now be more concerned about giving them ALL of her attention for the next few years, instead of pursuing her selfish personal agenda??

I agree completely. But the Bushbots would make her Mother of the Year if they could. She's pro-life and pro-gun and that's all that matters. Just ignore all that "collateral damage" of pregnant women, infants and children in Iraq & Afghanistan.

"but really, what does it say about your judgment when you think George Bush has been right more than ninety percent of the time?" - Senator Barack Obama on Senator John McCain

Obviously you have no idea of the hockey circuit. Midwest has many elite teams of AAA hockey, they travel around the country. VERY GOOD DIVISION> Alaska may be closer to Canada in hockey origins but there is no teams to play against. Almost all the guys in his level ship off and go live with host billet families! Give the kid a break before you think you know something about someone you've read about!
