Mission Statement

The People's Forum seeks to promote thoughtful and civil dialogue between people from many countries having diverse backgrounds, with differing political opinions and religious beliefs. Our attention is focused upon, but not limited to, world events. It is hoped that these discussions prove educational for all, leading to a better understanding of the world in which we all live.

No personal information is collected by The People's Forum from visitors to our website when viewing pages. We also do not collect or harvest the email addresses of people who join the forum.

Posting Guidelines

The online community experience is best when everyone follows a few house rules.

There are guidelines you should be aware of before you post to The People's Forum. While most people are polite, friendly and respectful, there are some individuals who may choose to behave in a disrespectful or overly argumentative manner. Appropriate steps will be taken keep discussions within these guidelines.

It is important for the success of The People's Forum to treat others with respect. Remember that this is a public venue read by many people spanning all walks of life.

Any posts will stay available to the public for as long as this forum is online. Please post carefully.

Censorship

Please understand that we are not attempting to censor any post or opinion, but this is a moderated discussion forum.

We simply want to preserve the spirit of an open, interactive discussion without anyone being unduly offended or threatened. This means that we reserve the right to remove inappropriate messages posted, or to lock a discussion thread.

The deletion of a post will only be taken in appropriate circumstances.

RULES TO REMEMBER...

1. Do not post an entire article - just a paragraph: Because The People's Forum has a People's Marketplace where business links for businesses owned by the people who belong to The People's Forum are listed; we cannot allow the posting of an entire article from another site. Just post the paragraph from the article. The link will make it possible for everyone to read the entire article from that site.

If you are the author of the article you may post the entire article. Authorship is encouraged on The People's Forum!

2. No posting of personally identifiable information - i.e. real names, addresses, telephone numbers, etc. Please respect the privacy guidelines.

3. Personal Attacks and Threats will not be tolerated. If you want to criticize, give examples as to why something posted is false or wrong in your opinion. A certain amount of heated debate is natural and completely acceptable. However, ad hominem personal attacks will not go unnoticed. Besides, such behavior really only demeans the attacker not the person being attacked.

Threats against a person, race, religion or group will not be tolerated.

Not following this rule could lead to an immediate suspension of your account for 1 to 7 days.

Note: Successive suspensions will become longer in duration.

4. Keep on topic: Generally, responses to a particular thread should be on-topic and pertain to the discussion.


Features

The People's Forum has some very nice features to facilitate your online posting experience. If at any time you have questions about any of the features please ask the forum administrator. Below are some of the features...

1. Search: The People's Forum provides a good search mechanism from Latest Comments by poster's name or by ping list name. Latest Articles also has a very good search engine by title or article and sorts by date or relevancy.

Note: Search is accessed from Latest Comments or Latest Articles.

2. Edit: The People's Forum has an edit feature that allows you to correct your typos or modify your most recent posts for up to 1 hour. This does not apply to articles. If you have a problem while creating a new discussion thread, contact the forum administrator.

3. Ping Lists: The People's Forum has a ping list feature. A ping list is just a list of people interested in a certain topic. and may be created and joined by anyone. Whoever joins a ping list may alert (ping) everyone on the list to threads and posts related to that topic.

Note: The Ping Lists are accessed from Setup -> Subscription Pings.

4. Private Message: The People's Forum has a private internal messaging system that sends private messages to and from people who belong to the forum. It is accessed from Mail.

5. Ignore Thread Filter: The People's Forum provides a filter to ignore discussion threads that you are no longer interested in viewing.

The Ignore Thread feature was designed to unclutter the forum from unwanted threads, allowing you to focus on the discussion threads of your choice.

A thread you set to Ignore may be reversed (Unignored) by you, at any time.

Note: To Ignore and Unignore a Thread go to Setup -> Content Filters.

6. Bozo Filter (Ignore Poster): The People's Forum provides a filter to enable you to block from your view all posts from anyone you place on your Bozo List. A Bozo filter is similar to Ignore Thread, except it is Ignore Poster.

The Bozo Filter was designed to unclutter the forum from unwanted distractions, allowing you to focus on posts you want to read.

Posts from the people you list in the Bozo Filter will be blocked from your view on every discussion thread.

Anyone listed in your Bozo Filter can be removed by you at any time and you will immediately see their posts on every discussion thread again.

Note: The Ignore Poster Filter is accessed from Setup -> Content Filters.

7. Headlines: The People's Forum provides a Headlines page where all the latest discussion threads are listed by category, with easy access to these threads with one click on the headline of your choice.

8. Home Page: Everyone who joins The People's Forum has a Home Page. This is where your Bookmarks are saved. It is also a place to tell others a little about yourself - this is entirely optional and up to you. Remember, please no posting of personally identifiable information.

Note: Someone else's Home Page is accessed by clicking on a poster's name found in a thread. Your own Home Page is accessed from Setup.

9. Bookmark: The People's Forum has a Bookmark feature that allows you to save the title and link to specific discussion threads. You will find your saved Bookmarks in your Home Page, for easy access and later viewing.

Note: The Bookmark feature is on every thread.

10. The People's Marketplace: The People's Forum has a Marketplace page with a list of business links for those here who have businesses they wish to promote. If you wish to add your business to The People's Marketplace please contact the forum administrator.

11. The People's Protest Page: The People's Forum has a page with a list of activist links. If you wish to add an upcoming protest or boycott to The People's Protest Page please contact the forum administrator. This page will be kept current; old events will be removed.
